Pakistan vs Afghanistan Highlights – June 29th, 2019 – Cricket World Cup

Sarfaraz Ahmed: We wanted to bat first but unfortunately toss is not in our hands. Our bowling line-up is bowling well so hopefully, they’ll restrict them. Our momentum is very high, but we’re focusing on this match, not focusing too far. Wahab had a bit of an issue but he’s fine and playing today. We’re going with the same team.

Gulbadin Naib: The wicket looks good, it’s a sunny day. The wicket will help the spinners in the second innings. Pakistan is a good side, they’ve played plenty of good games. We beat them in the warm-up so we’ll put our 100 percent in this game. Hamid is back in the side, in place of Dawlat. We’ll try to put a good total on the board so that it’s better for the spinners.

Pakistan v Afghanistan Icc Cricket World Cup 2019 Highlights

ICC Cricket World Cup 2019 Points Table

Afghanistan won the toss and chose to bat.

Pakistan team : 1 Imam-ul-Haq, 2 Fakhar Zaman, 3 Babar Azam, 4 Mohammad Hafeez, 5 Haris Sohail, 6 Sarfaraz Ahmed (capt & wk), 7 Imad Wasim, 8 Shadab Khan, 9 Mohammad Amir, 10 Wahab Riaz, 11 Shaheen Afridi.
Afghanistan team: 1 Gulbadin Naib (capt), 2 Rahmat Shah, 3 Hashmatullah Shahidi, 4 Asghar Afghan, 5 Samiullah Shinwari, 6 Mohammad Nabi, 7 Najibullah Zadran, 8 Ikram Alikhil (wk), 9 Rashid Khan, 10 Hamid Hassan, 11 Mujeeb Ur Rahman.

It’s expected to be the hottest day of the year, with the temperature exceeding 30 C. The pitch is expected to be slow, but recent games here have had fast bowlers achieve success, which should play into Pakistan’s hands. Pakistan wouldn’t want to break up their winning combination, so an unchanged team is expected.

Afghanistan have tried almost every possible combination, with 16 players used. One change here and there in the batting or bowling hasn’t made a significant difference; they dropped Aftab Alam to recall Dawat Zardan in the last game against Bangladesh, but the bowler conceded 64 in nine overs for one wicket. Samiullah Shinwari in place of Hazratullah Zazai made a difference, as the batsman scored a useful 49 at No. 6 to offer much-needed resistance. They are most likely to take on Pakistan unchanged from their previous outing in Southampton.

South Africa vs Sri Lanka Highlights – June 28th, 2019 – Cricket World Cup

Faf du Plessis“It’s a fresh pitch, so we’ll be looking to use the seam movement early today,”. Two changes for South Africa, with Dwaine Pretorius coming in for Lungi Ngidi, and JP Duminy slotting in for David Miller, who has tweaked his groin. Faf didn’t say so at the toss, but I suspect South Africa has decided not to play Ngidi given his earlier injury troubles in the tournament. No point risking him at this stage.

“Win,” is Faf’s succinct response to what South Africa is hoping to get out of this game. “We’re playing an extra batter today, hopefully, that will free up the batters. We deserve everything that’s come towards us,” he says of criticism of the team, “but it’s important to put that to one side and try to be the best cricketer you can be.”
Dimuth Karunaratne “It seems like a good wicket, and if we can put a score on the board the bowlers can do the rest,”. “We want the experienced guys to stand up and take responsibility. We just want to win this match and go forward.” Sri Lanka has also made a change to their XI – Nuwan Pradeep has chickenpox, apparently, and he’s been replaced by Suranga Lakmal.

India vs West Indies Highlights – June 27th, 2019 – Cricket World Cup

Pitch and conditions by Mike Atherton and Ian Bishop: “Same pitch as the one between New Zealand and West Indies. The square boundaries a bit shorter, but the dimensions don’t play such a big role,” says Athers. Bishop: “Generally, it looks like a good surface. The slower ball, cutters work. I expect some turn out of the footmarks. Not a cloud out in the sky, I will presume whoever wins the toss will bat first”

Virat Kohli: “We have two wrist-spinners, and hopefully a few rough patches for them to exploit. I think shot-selection and bit more application when they are set (for the team). Same team.”
Jason Holder: “We would have liked to have bowled too, but if the pitch will do anything, it will probably be first up. Two changes for us: Sunil Ambris and Fabian Allen are in, for Ashley Nurse and Evin Lewis”

Sarfaraz says he wanted to bat first too. They aren’t worried about the conditions and wanted to set a target. “Good to see Amir back in form, as well as Wahab Riaz,” he says. “The fielding is a concern but we’re working hard and hopefully we’ll do well as a fielding unit today.” Pakistan, too, are unchanged.
They are unchanged for the fifth game in a row. “You turn up and know you’ll have a tough game, as Pakistan are a very tough side. For us, it’s trying to build on those performances and keep improving,” Williamson says. He says he expects the Kiwi fans to be vastly outweighed by Pakistan supporters, but he doesn’t mind.

England vs Australia Highlights – June 25th, 2019 – Cricket World Cup

“It’s not a no-brainer, it’s a bit soft on top, but we haven’t seen much sun down south so it might do a bit this morning.” “it builds confidence,” Morgan says of beating Australia 5-0 last year. “For a long time we never won anything against Australia, but we have had some success recently and I think we have a good side.” “Jofra is good, he had stiffness in his side and we had a precautionary fitness test. We are confident.

“I’m not too disappointed batting,” says Aaron Finch. “I wasn’t too sure about the wicket, but I would have probably bowled first as well. We’ve played consistent cricket throughout without being outstanding. If you go too hard you leave yourself open at the back-end against some world-class death bowlers.” On the likelihood of a rough ride from the crowd, Finch adds: “We aren’t really bothered about how the crowd reacts. Every game is crucial and we can’t take any lightly.” England goes with the same team, Australia makes two changes.

Pakistan vs South Africa Highlights – June 23rd, 2019 – Cricket World Cup

The pitch the game will be played on has lost much of its green in the past 24 hours and is likely to shed more by match time on Sunday. It’s expected to be a flat wicket, good for batting. These days, that would mean bowl first, but given Pakistan’s misadventure with the toss against India last Sunday, this may just be a better toss to lose for them.

After scores of 8, 0 and 0, Malik might have played his last game in a Pakistan shirt. Haris Sohail should take his place. Hasan Ali’s lackluster performances might push him to the bench, with Mohammad Hasnain poised to slot in. The performance against New Zealand was much improved, even if it didn’t produce the result of South Africa so desperately needed. They are likely to stick with the same XI.

“Looks like a good batting pitch and some grass cover on it,” he says. “We are not thinking about the pressure, just focusing on the game, which is very important for us. Haris Sohail and Shaheen in, Shoaib Malik and Hasan Ali out.
South Africa are unchanged. “I was going to bowl first anyway, so good toss to lose,” Faf says.

New Zealand vs West Indies Highlights – June 22nd, 2019 – Cricket World Cup

Kane Williamson: No doubt the surface will remain pretty similar throughout, but important to do the job first up. We know without a doubt the threat West Indies pose, they’ve got world-class players and can beat anyone. We’ve already played on a variety of surfaces in this tournament and will have to adapt today again. You just try to play what’s in front of you. If it is a high-scoring affair, you just have to put up a good score. There were thoughts (about changing) but at the moment the team remains the same.

Jason Holder: We know what’s at stake, everybody is up for the game. We’ve just got to bring our A game. We haven’t been consistent with the bat, ball or in the field. Three changes. Darren Bravo, Andre Russell, Shannon Gabriel aren’t there, Ashley Nurse, Carlos Brathwaite, and Kemar Roach come in.

West Indies team

The two matches so far at Old Trafford have produced first-innings totals of 336 and 397, so plenty of runs can be expected once more, though there has been a bit of help for the spinners too. Friday was a sunny day in Manchester, and more of the same is expected on matchday. West Indies could bring back the offspinner Ashley Nurse if the pitch looks a little dry, given the number of left-handers in New Zealand’s top seven. With Andre Russell unlikely to play, according to captain Holder, Nurse could slot in at No. 8. New Zealand seems unlikely to make any changes unless they replace the out-of-sorts Colin Munro with Henry Nicholls at the top of the order.

India vs Afghanistan Highlights – June 22nd, 2019 – Cricket World Cup

Virat Kohli: “Looks like a good, hard wicket,”. “One forced change, Shami in for Bhuvi. The rest is the same. Vijay Shankar brings a lot of balance, in the field he’s as good as anyone in the world. There’s a reason why he’s in our squad. Whether we are playing a team that’s strong or the team that’s coming through the ranks, our mindset is the same. We don’t take Afghanistan lightly, they are a dangerous side when they are on the groove. Focus is within our group on what we want to do as a side.”

Gulbadin Naib: “Good pitch so wanted to bat myself too. But it’s a long day. Hazratullah and Aftab are in, Noor Ali Zadran and Dawlat Zadran are not playing. It was good we batted all 50 overs the other day.”

A straight hit is around 79-80 meters at Southampton. Third-man and fine-leg are short, so are the square boundaries. Teams will look to protect the shorter boundaries today, forcing the batsman to play straighter. “A beauty,” says Ramiz Raza looking at the pitch. “Brown tinge, good for batting. Will spin, although the pitch won’t powder. See off the first 5 overs and then bat. Look out for the straight hits!”
