5th ODI (D/N), England tour of Sri Lanka 2018, Eng v SL Cricket highlights today – fifth one day international from R.Premadasa Stadium, Khettarama, Colombo (Sri Lanka) Tuesday 23rd October 2018. The first ODI got no result because of the wet outfield, Second ODI England won by 31 runs (D/L method), third ODI England won by 7 wickets (with 15 balls remaining) and the fourth ODI England won by 18 runs (D/L method). So now England have already won the series by winning three ODI’s out of five.
Here are some players stats from last three ODI’s. AU Rashid, SL Malinga and A Dananjaya all three of them took five wickets each of them. EJG Morgan scored 195 runs, JE Root 136 and JJ Roy 110. From Sri Lanka batsmen N Dickwella scored 97, MD Shanaka 95 and NLTC Perera 88. Top three most runs are scored by India at this venue, 375/5, 363/5 and 332/5. The home team scored their highest total here 320/8. England highest scored at this ground is 298/8. Now the home team must win this match because of their reputation and England will also try their best to get one more victory because of their ODI Rankings.
The pitch looks good for batting. Khettarama is naturally the most spin-friendly venues among the ODI grounds in Sri Lanka, so expect some turn as well. Rain will likely interrupt or delay play at some point. Kusal Mendis’ awful form may pave the way back for Upul Tharanga. Dushmantha Chameera or Nuwan Pradeep may also be in the reckoning for a game, in place of Kasun Rajitha, whose lack of awareness of the fielding restrictions in the fourth match cost Sri Lanka the vital wicket of Joe Root.
England have a clutch of players they will want to try out: Joe Denly, Sam Curran and Mark Wood among them. Jason Roy, Olly Stone, Ben Stokes and Chris Woakes may make way, with Liam Plunkett looking for a game as well having joined the squad late following his wedding. Jonny Bairstow has been ruled out of the remainder of the white-ball leg of this tour after damaging ankle ligaments while playing football last week. He will be assessed in the lead-up to the Test series next month.
Sri Lanka won the toss and elected to bat.
