The home team Pakistan had lost the toss and New Zealand batted. Pakistani bowling performance was too good and they took all New Zealand wickets in 66.3 overs with 153 runs. Yasir Shah took three wickets, Mohammad Abbas, Hasan Ali and Haris Sohail these three Pakistani bowlers took two wickets each of them and remaining one wicket was taken by Bilal Asif. In reply, Pakistan scored 227 all out in 83.2 overs which is not a very good performance but according to New Zealand’s first innings score, it was bit appreciatable. Babar Azam scored 62 runs off 109 balls, Asad Shafiq 43, Haris Sohail 38, Azhar Ali 22 and Mohammad Hafeez contributed 20 runs. TA Boult took four wickets, C de Grandhomme took two wickets as same as AY Patel who also took two wickets, N Wagner and IS Sodhi took one wicket each of them. Till stumps day two New Zealand trail by 18 runs with 9 wickets remaining.
